Rory McIlroy, who was looking to win the Canadian Open last week, took the lead in the first round of Thursday’s US Open at The Country Club in Brooklyn, Massachusetts.

However, Canadian Adam Hadwin arrived in the afternoon to pace the field with a 4-under-par 66, a shot better than a group of McIlroy, MJ Duffy, Joel Dahmen, Callum Torren and David Lingmermth.

Jon Rahm, the first US Open champion from Spain, won the 1-under 69 card at the tournament in Torre Pines, San Diego last year.

Phil Mickelson – who has six major titles but has never won the US Open – scored 78 in 8-overs.
