Manchester City are ready to bid on Brighton’s Marc Cucurella, their main target at left-back. Pep Guardiola is determined to sign his fellow Catalan after being impressed with his performance in the Premier League.

Cucurella joined Brighton from Getafe in August last year, after a period at Barcelona in which he did not progress beyond the B side. The city’s interest is well known and their first offer is expected within a few days.

Brighton would make a significant profit if they sold Cucurella, who joined the club for £15.4m and wept with joy after scoring his first goal for the club in a 4-0 victory over Manchester United in May.

Although Oleksandr Zinchenko and right-hander Joao Cancelo were successful at left-back last season, helping City to the title, Guardiola wants another specialist to fill the position. Benjamin Mendy suspended indefinitely.

City bought Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for £51m, with chairman Khaldun al-Mubarak saying two more signings are planned. City have agreed to sell goalkeeper Gavin Bazuna to Southampton for £12m plus add-ons with a buyback option and a percentage of any future sale.

Another Brighton player, Yves Bissouma, is undergoing treatment at Tottenham after an additional £25m move was agreed. The midfielder has been at Brighton since 2018.

Fulham is negotiating the purchase of Israeli striker Manor Solomon from Shakhtar Donetsk and insists on signing defensive midfielder Joao Paligny from Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese is also a target for the Wolves.

Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign left-back Moussa Niahate from Mainz. The former France under-21 captain spent four seasons at Mainz after spells in his home country at Valenciennes and Metz. Niahate has attracted the attention of a number of Premier League clubs in recent months, including West Ham and Newcastle, and helped Mainz finish eighth in the Bundesliga last season.

Forest are increasingly confident in a deal to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan with an option to buy next summer. They are battling a number of clubs to sign Wolves winger Morgan Gibbs-White. The 22-year-old was on loan in the Championship with Sheffield United last season and missed a penalty to take Forest to the play-off final.
