The GMC Sierra 1500 lineup has been updated with the latest styling and even better interior by mid-2022, but this is not exciting news.

The full-size pickup is now available on the Crew Cab, the short-bed AT4X model, which promises the most extreme off-road capability of any Sierra 1500. It has a mechanical couple to the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 and the same technical updates.

Chief among them is the high performance suspension system designed to handle everything from traveling on the boulevard to rock crawling and high speed off-road driving.

It offers increased wheel drive and uses a special type of shock absorber‌ built by race car builder Multimat, which was originally developed for IndyCars and Formula One cars and was recently used in the Chevrolet Camaro Z28, but has been adapted for off-road use. And the mid-size Chevrolet is also available in the Colorado ZR2.

Shocks use a series of spool valves to precisely control the flow of fluid in them. They are tuned to provide progressive damping of soft shocks on rough roads at low speeds, but harden them when subjected to quick, sharp impacts, holding the body in quick turns and reducing suspension on large bumps. .

The ATX4 Sierra’s 420 hp 6.2-liter V8 comes standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission, a two-speed 4×4 system with full-time all-wheel-drive setting, front and rear locking differentials for maximum traction and special 18-. Inch wheels with mud-terrain tires.

The cabin is equipped with nine suits to help support the AT4X’s starting price of $ 77,395, and the new 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system display includes leather upholstery, ashwood trim, climate-controlled massaging front seats and 360. That is the main point for a new interior look.

On the back, the AT4X features GMC’s Multi-Pro Tailgate, which opens up six different ways to create different storage solutions, desk or step. The only major option available in a heavily loaded truck is the $ 1,970 technology package, which adds video rearview mirror, head-up display, adaptive cruise control and an adjustable steering column.

Its payload rating is 1,420 pounds and it can pull up to 8,900 pounds.

AT4X’s closest competitor is the Ford F – 150 Raptor, which has a wider body and a more aggressive suspension, although its 450 hp turbocharged 3.5 – liter V6 does not add much punch. The more powerful Raptor R is coming later this year, while the Ram 1500 TRX is the current king on the hill with its 702 horsepower supercharged V8.

Ironically, AT4X’s devices offer a better on-road ride than some Street Smart Sears, although its elevated stance and navy tires only contribute to a combined fuel economy rating of 16 mpg.

Changes in the dust make it a formidable machine. The power and 10-inch wheel travel are good enough to climb hills and fire roads, and the suspension has proven to be excellent in both situations.

It behaves so well that it is hard to believe it has no computer control. It gently cradles the truck without bouncing while traveling on a rolling hoop-de-dos and soaks the washboard surfaces and small jumps at high speeds.

A special terrain mode for the traction management system keeps the lower gears longer when you are less than 4×4, thereby increasing engine braking to mimic the efficiency of one-pedal driving electric cars.

The AT4X’s limitations are clear compared to the Raptor’s, but much less if you do not plan to explode in the desert at 100 mph, although its narrow attitude makes it ideal for tight trials and parking in the mall.

The main drawback is that despite having all-weather floor mats, the AT4X is very dressy and you may not want to turn it dirty. I suggest you get that feeling if you buy one, or you will not really get the price you paid.
