“The woman was twice subjected to sex without consent, she was not raped for several days in a row,” according to some media outlets, according to Insp. Rita Sverdigliozzi, head of the Brindisi State Police unit investigating the alleged crime.

“She admired him and came to Ostuni hoping she could work with him.”

Haggis was arrested Sunday on charges of sexual assault and grievous bodily harm. He is currently under house arrest in Ostuni, Italy.

Sverdigliozzi confirmed that the 29-year-old woman and Haggis, 69, dated in the spring.

Italian media reported details from a leaked note Haggis wrote to his lawyer where he said they met at the Monaco International Film Festival. After the woman took a selfie with Haggis, he allegedly contacted her through social media.

The woman told police she left a love note “for a reason” in the breakfast room they shared for several days.

Early on June 15, Haggis dropped the woman off at Brindisi Airport, Italy, the nearest town to Ostuni, in the Puglia region, in the shape of a heel, according to a prosecutor’s statement. in what prosecutors describe as “an unstable psychological and physical condition” and the police were alerted.

After reporting the alleged attack to police, the woman remained at a sexual assault shelter in Puglia, which she left on Wednesday, police said.

Authorities also said it could be weeks before the trial begins.

The woman will tell the court about the attack

The woman is due next week to tell the judge in Brindisi about the alleged attack.

Investigators are still collecting evidence ahead of a preliminary hearing when the judge will decide whether to proceed with the trial and whether to release Haggis from house arrest, and if so, on what terms.

Wilma Gilley, the judge overseeing the preliminary investigations, ruled on Wednesday that the filmmaker be kept under house arrest, where he is only allowed to see family members and his lawyers.

Haggis currently lives in a luxurious farmhouse near Ostuni, where he moved after the arrival of his adult children, who were supposed to teach master classes at the Allora Film Festival, which began this week.

The judge based her decision on the victim’s version of events, which, in the judge’s words, demonstrated “an absolute inability to control [Haggis’s] instincts and refrain from evasiveness and dominance,” Italian media reported.

U.S. allegations

The judge also cited a pending civil case involving Haggis’s New York rape allegation, which helped substantiate her decision. Four women in the US accused Haggis of sexual harassment, which he denied.
