A New York City taxi cab crashed into a curb in Manhattan on Monday afternoon and crashed into a crowd of diners outside, according to city police.

A NYPD spokesman confirmed that at least four people had been killed, three of them seriously.

It happened at 1186 Broadway, a few blocks from Madison Square Park and an area packed with New Yorkers and tourists alike.

Broadway was closed near 29th Street as part of an investigation, police said.

The driver may have had to face a medical emergency, he said, but investigators are still investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.

An aerial view of the latter provided by Fox 5 New York Blood was seen on the sidewalk. According to the station, the victim was admitted to Bellevue Hospital.
