The Country Club in Brooklyn, Massachusetts, presented a challenging but fair test to the field set for the thrilling end of Father’s Day at the 2022 US Open this week.

How good was the final round of action on Sunday? When the leaders of the last group were in the 15th hole, each of the top six players on the leaderboard was ranked in the top 20 in the official world golf rankings.

The last three US Open Openers at The Country Club have reached the playoffs, but this year’s lead to that trend with Matt Fitzpatrick winning under 6, one shot ahead of world No. 1 Scotty Scheffler and Will Zalatoris. The victory marked Fitzpatrick’s first major title and the 13th player to win the US Amateur and US Open, and the first player to achieve this feat on the same golf course.

Fitzpatrick shot with a 2-under 68 in the final round for the first victory after the 2021 Estrella Dam NA Andalusia Masters on the DP World Tour.
