On Sunday evening, a man was killed in a parking lot shooting in an upmarket neighborhood north of downtown Atlanta and two others were injured, including the manager of rap star Ludacris.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that all the men were taken to hospitals where one of them was pronounced dead. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the man as 23-year-old Artes Benton of Scottdale.
Atlanta police were investigating a shooting in the 2200 block of Peachtree Road in Buckhead early Monday morning. The parking lot is shared by several restaurants and shops.
Police Lieutenant Germaine Dearlove told local media that the shooting was “the result of an argument in a parking lot.” He did not say if the three victims were visiting any businesses prior to the shooting around 11:35 p.m.
On Monday afternoon, Atlanta police confirmed that one of the two injured men was Chaka Zulu, the longtime manager of rapper and actor Ludacris. The terms of Zulu and the other man were not released.
Earlier Sunday, another shooting at an Atlanta sandwich shop killed one employee and injured another after an altercation over mayonnaise, police said.
The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. Sunday at a Subway restaurant adjacent to a gas station in downtown Atlanta. Police said the man got into an argument with two workers before shooting them.
“This was a very tragic situation that should not have happened,” Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Charles Hampton Jr. told reporters on Monday.
The deceased woman was 26 years old. Another woman, 24, remained in critical condition on Monday, Hampton said.
He said the 36-year-old man believed to be the shooter was arrested on Sunday evening after someone, whose identity the police did not identify, provided them with information.
