The company said on Saturday that longtime pro-wrestling referee David Hebner had died after handling some of the best matches in WWE history. He is 73 years old.
Hebner served as referee for the Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat match at WrestleMania III, and WWE recorded a famous moment in 1988 between Hebner and his brother during the match between Savage and Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania V.

“When Andre the Giant and Hogan meet at the WWE Main Event for the WWE title in 1988, Hebner and his brother Earl help the author through some of the most memorable moments in WWE history. As he entered the ring with Earl, he confused Dougan with double disbelief. “
Dave Hebner worked behind the scenes for WWE after his refereeing career ended in 2005.

“WWE Hebner extends its condolences to family, friends and fans,” the company said.
The details of Dave Hebner’s death are unclear.
Earl Hebner tweeted about Dave’s death.
“Yesterday I had to say my last goodbye to my other half, my partner in crime, my road friend for years, my brother of 73 years. I love you David, I will never count on you,” he wrote.
