LIV Golf is looking at 2023 with 14 events and a new name

- Advertisment -

North Plains, Ore. – The LIV Golf Invitational Series will have more events and a name change in 2023.

The series will move to the LIV Golf League next year and events will grow from eight this year to 14 in the future with 48 contracted players on 12 teams. The number of events will be limited to 14.

The Saudi-backed series has grown faster than expected, with eight players in the top 50 and 20 in the top 100 of the current World Golf Rankings joining LIV so far. Jupiter natives Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka, both in the top 20.

The fields for this year’s eight events are fluid as more players withdraw from the PGA Tour. This week’s field at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course outside Portland includes nine players from the opening event outside of London, including Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Matthew Wolff, Abraham Unser and Carlos Ortiz.

The 2023 plan calls for the season to begin in March with 48 contracted players. Four-man teams are set before the season, with players selected and recruited by 12 captains.

Each player’s contracts vary over four years. Phil Mickelson reportedly signed the biggest deal at $200 million and Johnson at $125 million.

The list of venues has not been finalised. The number of international sites is expanding. This year, the series will make stops in England, Bangkok and Saudi Arabia in addition to five US sites: Portland; Bedminster, NJ; Boston; Chicago; And Miami.
