In Iowa, Nikki Haley says she will run for president in 2024 “if there is a place for me”

Sioux Center, Iowa – Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley said Thursday that “if there is a place for me, she will run for president in 2024,” but she set aside questions about the ongoing hearings on former President Donald Trump’s role in Jan. 6. Gave. 2021, Capitol riots will influence his decision.

Haley was an early critic of Trump’s leadership on Jan. 6. Says early 2021 That “we need to accept that he disappointed us.” But, More recently, she has acknowledged Trump’s place in the party – A shift that highlights the difficult path Republicans must navigate as they consider exploring the White House under the shadow of Trump.

Trump has not yet said whether he will run for re-election in 2024, although he has repeatedly teased the possibility. As it waits, the excitement of potential contenders has begun to make trips to Iowa prerequisites to lay the foundation for a potential race.

Haley, who is a former governor of South Carolina, visited the U.S. in deeply conservative northwestern Iowa on Thursday. Rep. Randy arrived to speak to raise funds for Finstra. Asked by reporters if her decision would be influenced by the congressional hearing on the Jan. 6 attack, which included the shocking testimony of a former White House aide this week, Haley was disappointed.

January 6 hearing:What did Cassidy Hutchins, a January 6 witness, say about Trump?

“I have always said, I love this country,” she said, echoing past statements. “I had the joy of serving the Kingdom that raised me and protected the country I love so much. And if it seems like there’s a place for me next year, I’ve never lost a race. I’m not able to start now. I will put 1,000% and I will complete it. If there is no place for me I will fight for this country till my last breath.

Trump’s grip on Iowans was evident during a massive rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds last October. Still, Iowa Republicans say they want to hear from options. Former Vice President Mike Pence received a warm welcome in Carol earlier this year and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott was praised at Cedar Rapids this month.

In his 20-minute speech to about 350 listeners, Haley called for the renewal of American patriotism.

“This national self-hatred that is happening across the country is killing us,” Haley said, a child of Indian immigrants. “The idea that they say America is a bad country, that people are oppressed, that America is a racist country – if America were a racist country, I wouldn’t be elected as the first woman minority governor in the country.”
