A performer at a haunted house in South Carolina was shot by a patron after scaring a group of people.
The incident occurred at the Zombie Experience at the Hollywood Wax Museum Haunted House in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, police said.
Investigators later identified the shooter as Keal Latrell Brown, who fled the scene and was apprehended in Charleston and brought back to Myrtle Beach.
Brown told Myrtle Beach police that the group fell to the floor when they were scared by the performer and he felt a gun at his feet, which he believed to be a prop and part of the experience. He picked up the weapon and shot twice, hitting the performer in the shoulder once.
Brown was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor “for knowingly giving the gun used in the shooting to the minor,” police said in a statement. The boy he gave the gun to is 15-years-old.
Police are still investigating where the gun came from and said additional charges for Brown, and maybe others, are likely.
