A jury in Orlando, Florida, on Friday found Daniel Radlick not guilty of stabbing her stepfather, Michael Radlick, to death.

The jury began deliberations on Thursday and on Friday acquitted Daniel of second-degree murder. According to Orange County records, the jury found Daniel guilty of tampering with evidence.

Daniel, 48, and Michael, who was 65 at the time of his death, have two children. They had been married for 15 years before Daniel accused Michael, a former NBA executive, of assaulting them at their Winter Park home after an argument on January 11, 2019.

Her lawyer, Catherine Conlon, argued that Daniel struck her husband on the shoulder in self-defense, while state prosecutor Sean Wiggins drew a more violent picture – describing the couple’s home as a “horrific scene” after Michael’s murder.

“Evidence will show that, from the beginning, this defendant did everything she could to avoid responsibility for her actions,” Wiggins said in her opening statement, adding that Daniel had tried to clear the scene at some point in the 11 hours that had passed between Michael. Conlon described the difficult marriage in her opening statement but described Michael as aggressive.

The night after his knife death, the couple had a physical altercation in which Michael allegedly choked and crushed Daniel, causing her to fear for her life. Michael had knocked Daniel to the ground at one point during the fight, at which point he apparently reached into a drawer and pulled out a kitchen knife, stabbing Michael once in the shoulder before running to “hide” in the bathroom, Conlon said.

“Daniel Radlick once hit Michael Radlick in the shoulder,” Conlon said, but he claimed he was in “self-defense” instead of attacking.

The sentencing hearing is set for Aug. 5, according to county records.
