The Justice Department announced Wednesday that Gillum, who narrowly lost to Republican Governor Ron Desantis in a race that required recounting, has been charged with conspiracy, misrepresentation to the FBI and 19 wire fraud.

Gillam has denied making a mistake in the statement he released and published through his campaign Tallahassee Democrat.
“I have spent the last 20 years of my life in public service and continue to fight for the people,” Gillam said. “Every campaign I have run has been conducted in good faith. Do not make the mistake that this case is not legal, it is political.”
Gillam’s argument that the indictment is “political” is of interest because the allegations were provided by Biden’s DOJ. Gillum’s failed 2018 governor campaign received huge donations from billionaires such as George Soros and Tom Stear, who also received political firepower with the approval of other top progressives such as Biden and Obama, then-Sen. Harris, Sene. Bernie Saunders, I-Vt., And Sene. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.

“The consequences of having any of us stay at home are really very dangerous,” he said. “Maybe all the characters of our country can be on the ballot.”
Obama also mocked the Trump administration, saying “they promised to take action against corruption – instead they made enough allegations to get the football team on the field.”

State officials filed an ethics complaint against Gillam in 2019 after he was found guilty of ethical violations in 2016 by accepting gifts from lobbyists.
In 2020, Gillam was rehabilitated along with two other people in a Miami Beach hotel room when police failed to respond, where authorities believed the crystal was methamphetamine. While he refuses to use drugs, Gillum admits he struggles with alcoholism.
