(CNN)Dolly Parton has donated $ 1 million to pediatric infectious disease research in the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Vanderbilt said Wednesday.
“I love all children. No child should ever have to suffer, and I am ready to try to keep them as healthy and safe as possible,” Parton was quoted as saying. In a press release From Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).
According to the press release, Vanderbilt’s section on pediatric infectious diseases is conducting research on how viruses and bacteria cause disease, resistance to antibiotics, prevention and treatment of infections in children with cancer and “research to define the effects of childhood infections worldwide”.
“Dolly’s past support for infectious disease research and our pediatric cancer program have already saved countless lives,” he said. Jeff Balser, president and CEO of VUMC and dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, said in a statement. “This new gift will strengthen our protection against future threats to the security of the region and society as a whole. It speaks to her passion for the people and we cannot be more grateful.”
In April 2020, less than a month after Kovid-19 was officially declared a pandemic (or epidemic) nationwide, Parton donated $ 1 million to coronavirus research at Vanderbilt. Funded for Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine.
