Authorities reportedly didn’t warn A$AP Rocky before arresting him at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday.
The rapper wasn’t given the opportunity to voluntarily surrender before he was apprehended in connection with a 2021 shooting after his private jet arrived at the airport, according to TMZwhich reports Rocky and his partner, Rihanna, were blindsided by the arrest.
Los Angeles Police say Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, is accused of firing a gun three or four times towards someone during an incident in Hollywood last November.
The incident involved an argument that “escalated” between “two acquaintances,” with the victim suffering a minor injury, police said.
Authorities didn’t tell Rocky’s team that they were preparing to arrest him out of concerns he would get rid of the gun allegedly used in the incident, TMZ reported.
The Los Angeles Police Department didn’t immediately respond to a Daily News request for comment.
Rocky has been in a relationship since 2020 with the pop star Rihanna, who is currently pregnant with their first child.
